Happy Holidays

I've never been a fan of the traditional reindeer/fair isle sweater family picture in front of the Christmas tree, although we've done it every year, my husband and I. But really... that's just not us.

So, as a new family with our baby girl, we're starting our own tradition. The family editorial photo.

Cheers!

Studded tweed

This studded tweed jacket isn't totally my style, but on the sale rack at Len Druskin for $12, I figured it's worth the flash in the pan trend. You can find similar here and here.

Baby it's cold outside

All this smugness lately and we finally got blasted with over a foot of snow. At least it feels a lot like Christmastime now.

All that glitters...

Little Leeloo wanted in on the picture.

Can you believe it? Christmas is only two weeks away. All this warm weather doesn't make it feel very much like Christmas. We will be flying out in to North Carolina for a big family get together however, so let the festivities begin!

Gold rush

I didn't feel like investing in $250 on a Michael Kors gold watch trend that will probably only last a hot minute. Instead, I opted for the real thing - an old 80's Seiko watch borrowed from my father. Add the J. Crew pave link bracelet, old gold bangles, and a glittery gold top and we're good to go. Trend accomplished.

Wardrobe basics

  1. Skinny jeans - Michael Jors
  2. Black leggings - J. Crew Pixie Pant
  3. Leopard Wingtip jacket - Emerson Fry
  4. Black wool coat - Zara
  5. Faux Fur coat - Elie Tahari
  6. Black blazer - Theory (old)
  7. Sheer blouse - Pussybow top, Urban Outfitters
  8. Cashmere sweater - J. Crew
  9. Walking boots - Macalister Wedge, J. Crew
  10. Oxblood pumps - Emerson Fry
  11. Rain boots - Hunter Wellington (old)

In my attempt to regain my style mojo, I need to rebuild the basic wardrobe. Aside from the standard 9-5 business suits which will imminently be thrown into the Goodwill pile - as I hopefully, will never have use of them again, I'm left with just a few things:  my designer shoes, a pair of jeans, tank tops, and a worn out parka from Zara.

For years I couldn't fathom anyone over the age of 12 or over 90 lbs should ever submit themselves to the embarrassment of skinny jeans, leggings, jegging but there must've been a paradigm shift in the fashion world, because I adore them now! When I put slipped into my first skinny jeans, they looked fabulous. And this was three months postpartum thighs - so hell, I'm a late adopter, yet again.

I've recently started acquiring a few wardrobe staples but have a quite a bit of catching up to do. One of the positives of living in the Minnesota tundra is I can use the excuse of the frigid weather to build a robust collection of coats and jackets depending on the temperature range:

50-60 F: trench coat & pumps
40-50 F: My leopard heavy linen coat & wedge boots or pumps
30-40 F: My black wool coat/camel wool coat & knee high boots
10-20 F: Parka & wellies with knee high socks
10 and below F: stay inside and play dress up for this blog

Below is my lust/want/need list:

  1. Classic trench coat - Burberry Mottram trench
  2. Leather riding boots - Gucci lace up boot
  3. Leather knee high heel boots - Maison Marghela
  4. Camel wool coat - Dolce & Gabbana on Farfetch.com
  5. Handmade knit cardigan - Irenastyle on Etsy
  6. Parka - SAM Adirondack fur lined Parka
  7. Silk blouse - Oscar de la Renta
  8. Mulberry bag- Bayswater in flame red
  9. Leather gloves - Purple opera length gloves, Carolina Amato
  10. Nude glitter pumps - Manolo Blahnik BB Glitter Pump
