Safari cool

I'm starting to realize that I have a thing for stripes, zebra stripes that is. Look at my rug, my St. Medusa bags, my clothes... I've always harbored that romanticism for the bygone era of British Colonial style - particularly the days of big game hunting expeditions. The safari aesthetic is at once rugged and chic with a range of earth tones olive, khaki and sand, animal prints, and deep dark woods. Love safari cool!

I have been searching forever for a good pair of aviators. While the big bug eyed boho frames seem to be the in
thing right now, I've always found the aviator to be a classically sexy look. Unfortunately, they're not a style for everyone. I found these Chloe aviators with more rounded lenses which have been the best so far.

Summer dressing

Summer is my absolute favorite season to dress for. I love vibrant color, prints, and crisp white shirts, shorts, jeans - everything. For me, white is the basic black. Summer is all about flowy dresses, maxi dresses, crisp shorts, cutoff shorts, capris, white jeans, gladiators, platform sandals and straw hats - the options are endless!

A couple of days ago, I was having a really bad mom day - it was the typical routine: no sleep, Eloise was incessantly crying and fussing. I had baby food stains all over me, hair was a mess, etc. I just couldn't take it anymore so I yelled to hubz that I was taking the baby to the mall before I went crazy. I wandered into the Michael Kors store and they just happened to be having a sale and since I was in dire need of retail therapy - these white jeans were the perfect remedy. I was hoping to snatch up a pair of J Brands, but this Michael Kors pair fits amazingly well and hugged all the right places. For the summer, I prefer to roll them up retro style. I paired these up with my new platforms from Emerson Fry (post coming soon!). What do you think?

Top: Tie waist tank top by Marimekko for Anthropologie (old)
Jeans: White skinny jeans by Michael Kors
Shoes: Orange and white wedge platform heels by Emerson Fry
Purse: Antilles leather fold-over pouch in belle de rose by St. Medusa
Necklace: Forever 21

Summer is here!

Italian cured meats: prosciutto, capicola, salami, baby watermelon, double creme brie, cornichons, cantaloupe & watermelon, topped off with sparkling rose from the south of France. Viva l'ete!

This week has been a continuous celebration of family time, wine, feasts, sun, lake walks. Why you may ask? Just because summer is finally HERE! We try to sit outside for dinner when we can. As Eloise isn't quite ready for a high chair, we've taken her walker out the lawn and she seemed happy enough running her toes through the grass and taking in the trees, blue skies, chirping birds and mommy and daddy with silly grins plastered on their faces all night long. Don't let that frown fool you, she loves it.

Yesterday, after a hot sticky walk around the lake, I was getting thirsty for some bubbly, so we sauntered into our absolute new favorite restaurant - Harriet Brasserie. What started with one glass each, turned into a bottle's worth of Prosecco and sauvignon blanc as well as a French beer for the hubz and a mini dinner of salmon pate and beet salad for the both of us. Even the the dogs were able to enjoy the patio area and Eloise spat out bits of bread and salmon. Afterward we walked off our buzz and sat on the grass and listened to Brazilian music in the park. It was one of those sweet, spontaneous days that we'll never forget.

Last week, it was multiple celebrations for hubz first father's day, as well as a belated family feast of cioppino and calamari and sparkling rose for the family. It's one of those rare instances where I joined forces with my sister, a bonafide foodie, in photographing our process while cooking. Stay tuned for my first food post!

Happy summer everyone!!!

Wardrobe remix

Over the winter, as I agonized over my haggard state of new motherhood, I quickly filled up my wardrobe with new clothes as a reward for giving birth to a almost 9 pounder and three months of no sleep. However, I was taking too much advantage of JCrew sales and not thinking about shopping for my personal style. I bought way too many stripes and I also got a lot of basics and then I realized... my wardrobe was becoming way too preppy. As my sis, and friends would declare - preppy is great, but ultimately, that ain't me. Here are my new go to pieces for this summer:

  1. Silk kimono jacket. Similar here from Zara under $50. and at ASOS for under $50.
  2. Dolce & Gabbana zebra print top. Similar here. Similar here Banana Republic for $45.
  3. Blumarine red and white polka dot top. Similar here from Thakoon $224. Similar here at Nordstroms for $78.
  4. Black tee with large flower detail. Reminds me of those Emerson Made flower pins. You'll have to google this one. Similar here on Etsy.
  5. Lauren Moshi zebra print t shirt. Unique graphic print t shirts. Find others from Lauren Moshii on her online shop.
  6. Marimekko graphic print tank top. Similar here at Farfetch for $121. This gorgeous Sonia Rykiel tank top here for only $62!
  7. Chloe tie waist tank top. Similar on La Garconne for $321. Similar for under $50 here
  8. J'Adore Dior pink t shirt. Who doesn't want to be a little Carrie for a day. Available here on Ebay.
  9. J Brand capri jeans. Available online here at JBrand
  10. J Brand white capris. Similar here and here.
  11. J Brand Earhat pants. These are truly one of a kind - a cross between harem and flight pants. But find similar here and here and here and here.
  12. Zara skorts in white. Love these! Buy them online at Zara.
I've cleaned out my closet again and discovered Ebay as an excellent source of designer styles at way way less, some new, some used but like new. I love Ebay! Here is my new summer wardrobe:

First Father's Day picks

I'm looking forward to celebrating father's day with my husband this Sunday. I booked us a table at his favorite pub - The Local in Minneapolis and we'll be noshing on standard Irish fare - bangers, mash, black (blood! sasuage  yum) & white pudding, beans and BEER!

My father never appreciates gifts, and no matter how many times my brother and sister and I have tried, our gift giving has fallen into unappreciative hands. So, I'm happy I have someone I can celebrate father's day with. Unfortunately... my hubz is overly stylish (do they still call them metros?), so when it comes to gift-giving, we're stuck in a deadlock as we are both very picky and particular. That being said, it's a good thing I convinced him to use Pinterest, so here are my "picks" I filched from his wishlist for his first father's day.

  1. Something from Rose & Born. Looks English, sophisticated and expensive. That's my man.
  2. Quantum iPad Pase by our company - Landmarks & Lions. $180. Something sleek & elegant for the modern father.
  3. Cashmere vest by Loro Piana. $1895. Maybe if I pawn off my wedding band.
  4. Garrett Leight Hamptom sunglasses. $355. Hubz breaks a pair every year. Time for a new one!
  5. Arquiste L'Etrog cologne (unisex). $185 The all natural ingredient cologne is extra special and smells divine. Get one for yourself too.
  6. Rivieras cotton mesh shoes. $70. Hubz bought a pair when we were on honeymoon in Santa Margherita and he's hooked.
  7. Bespoke Italian made J Craft boat. I may never be able to buy a million dollar boat, but a week getaway to Lake Como again? Yes!

It's swimsuit season!

It's swimsuit season! Well, in most other parts of the world but not here, where I've had to turn the heat on because it's been dropping down to the 40s. Yes, when are we moving again??

For the 4th of July which is only 3 weeks away, we're taking the whole famiglia (dogs et al) and flying down south for a massive family reunion bash in the beautiful blue ridge mountain country of North Carolina. My in-laws have a boat and live next to a lake. Which means, swimsuit shopping time!

I used to think one pieces were a little too frumpy and dowdy, but I'm adopting a new retro glam vibe in my style and as a new mom, I'm not sure that I will get my abs back in time by the 4th, so I've found some one pieces that can be cute and even sexy.

Here are my favorite picks:

La Blanca french dot plunge halter

Seafolly Sophia bustier bikini
Seafolly Safari one piece

Seafolly boyleg mask bikini

My name necklace

In case I fall and bang my head and somehow wander out of state in a amnesiac haze, this name necklace will get me back home safe and sound. Obviously, with my name, I never was able to get those premade name necklaces as a kid, so hurrah for mynamenecklace.com, I finally got my own. This solves that annoying problem of always having to spell out my name at the coffee shop even though I tell them my name is "K" and they still ask how I spell it.

Mynamenecklace.com review: I love it! It was shipped from Israel and arrived within 1 week to the US. The necklace I'm wearing is the double thickness pendant in gold plated silver in the Carrie style. I opted for the 14" chain because I'm so petite that most chains end up falling below my collar line. I'm also getting a small one with my baby girl's name.

For the price, it's well worth the fun and novelty of wearing a signature piece of jewelry. My next purchase will be this XXL monogram necklace in gold.
